New UANL Program Targets AI challenges

In the upcoming August-December 2024 semester, the UANL School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering will introduce the Bachelor’s Degree in Artificial Intelligence Engineering. This initiative is driven by global technological advancements and the increasing demand for expertise in this field, particularly within industries.

The educational program, with yearly enrollment, is designed to address the needs of modern industry and society. The UANL School of Engineering boasts expert faculty, technological resources, and infrastructure essential for ensuring widespread acceptance of this new degree among students.

Romeo Sanchez Nigenda, head of the undergraduate education program and a member of the graduate program in Systems Engineering at the School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, noted the significant rise of artificial intelligence in Mexico. He emphasized its increasing demand as companies seek specialized skills to enhance their efficiency.

An interdisciplinary educational program

The professor stated that UANL aims to create a comprehensive artificial intelligence educational program that spans across different levels of education, from high school to postgraduate studies, ensuring a holistic approach to learning.

At FIME and UANL, we aim to provide a comprehensive program that remains pertinent across all levels of higher education. This means students can start exploring artificial intelligence topics in high school, continue their studies through a bachelor’s degree, and eventually pursue advanced research in a postgraduate program,” stated Romeo Sanchez Nigenda.

Introducing a new degree program tailored to evolving demands.

For FIME researchers Sara Elena Garza Villarreal and Erick Ordaz Rivas, the new bachelor’s degree in artificial intelligence is set to address the requirements of emerging industries in this field. They highlight the program’s innovative curriculum, which aligns closely with current industry trends.
