UANL Athletes achieve Olympic Dreams in Paris

Notably, badminton player Luis Ramón Garrido, who studied at the UANL School of Physical Education, made a remarkable appearance at the Olympic Games.

Luis Ramón Garrido Esquivel, a graduate of the UANL School of Physical Education, concluded his journey at Paris 2024 by making history as the first Mexican badminton player to win a set in a match against Cheuk Yiu Lee from Hong Kong.

Luis Ramón Garrido started the match by losing the first set 21-5, but his determination allowed him to come back and win the second set 21-15 against the Chinese athlete, ranked 17th in the world. Garrido will now begin his preparation for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic cycle

Injury hinders performance

Gymnast Natalia Isabela Escalera Cárdenas, a student at the School of Sports Organization, was hindered by an injury during the competition. Despite this setback, she completed her routine on the uneven bars.

UANL Athletes maintain high level of performance

Due to her extensive experience as a physiotherapist with the Mexican delegation, Thalia Andrea Olvera Arriaga, a graduate of the School of Physical Education, has joined Mexico’s medical team for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Olvera Arriaga’s primary responsibility is to provide care and rehabilitation for the Mexican sailing team, which began its competition on July 29 in Marseille, France.

Thalia Andrea’s most recent international role was at the Pan-American Games in Lima in 2019. At the national level, she also participated in the National Universiade 2024, held in her hometown of Aguascalientes, where she supported various sports disciplines for the UANL representative teams.
