UANL Inaugurates University Performing Arts Festival
UANL School of Performing Arts’ event held on October 7th to 12th seeks to create connections between performing arts institutions in Mexico and Latin America.
With the participation of academic institutions from Chile, Costa Rica, United States, France, Mexico and Peru, the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León hosted the International University Performing Arts Festival’ eighth edition FAE-UANL 2024.
UANL School of Performing Arts’ Principal Deyanira Triana Verástegui opened this cultural event scheduled for October 7th to 12th at the ‘Rogelio Villarreal Elizondo’ Space Theater.
During her speech, Triana Verástegui welcomed the participants and remarked the event as one of the most relevant in the country due to the quality and quantity of its guests, solidifying each edition over the years.
In addition, she stated the festival’s objective as the development of activities able to connect Mexican educational institutions of performing arts upper studies with Latin American countries, as well as enhance students’ professional education and update professors with new strategies on theater and dance education.
There will be 22 disciplinary workshops as part of the program, as well as a keynote lecture and two roundtable discussions presented by national and international parties with performing arts knowledge, together with nine stagings with their respective dismantling tables.
‘‘We added two cultural animations in this edition with the objective of bringing universities together, as well as a plastic arts’ exhibition, and an interuniversity project headed by the Chilean National Theater’ Principal, Cristian Kiem. In this project, a student from each delegation will participate in a staging which will be worked on during the week and presented on the last day of the festival,’’ the principal commented.
A Space to Reflect
The main theme of the University Performing Arts Festival is ‘‘The Contemporary Scene: Narratives and Territories’’, which will be addressed by renowned artists from Mexico, France, Chile, Costa Rica and Peru, as well as disciplinary workshops, conferences, and roundtable discussions conducted by them, aiming to promote a space to reflect about theater and dance in the student community.
In addition, a roundtable discussion denominated ‘‘An approach to contemporary scenic creation’’ between Carlos Salazar-Zeledón, Eduardo Guardado and Laurent Berger, representative of the Paul Valéry University of Montpellier, France.
The festival will feature the participation of national and international institutions this year:
- Escuela Superior de Música y Danza de Monterrey, INBAL.
- Escuela de Arte Escénico de la Universidad Nacional de Costa Rica.
- College of Fine Arts, University of Texas.
- Facultad de Artes (Unidad Torreón) de la Universidad Autónoma de Coahuila.
- Escuela Estatal de Teatro del SEER de San Luis Potosí.
- Departamento de Bellas Artes de la Universidad de Sonora.
- Latino Theatre Initiatives, University of Texas Rio Grande Valley.
- Facultad de Artes Escénicas de la Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú.
- Paul Valéry University of Montpellier (UPVM), France.
