5th International Symposium on Desert Cultures

Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon, through the Center for Research, Innovation, and Development of the Arts (CEIIDA) and Red Multidisciplinaria de Estudios del Desierto, AC, invites you to the:

5th International Symposium on Desert Cultures, “Desert Wisdoms: knowledge, creation and culture”

19 al 23 de septiembre de 2023, ciudad de Monterrey, Nuevo León, México

Objective: To promote a multidisciplinary approach to the phenomenon of creation, not only in its aesthetic and artistic dimension, but in a broad spectrum of what it means to create: ideas, objects, communities.

In this edition, we aim to motivate reflection on the different knowledge and wisdom that are outside the scientific norm and that have been the basis of the original desert cultures. We will also investigate different conceptual relationships between the arid and its borders (mountains, valleys, oceans, oases), from the conceptual and allegorical point of view, as well as from the concrete individual and community experiences that are lived in this ecosystem, with the aim of encouraging a relevant social praxis regarding what it means today to inhabit the deserts.
The symposium is structured on the basis of five basic activities of social retribution and incidence, as well as dissemination and divulgation. Access to the symposium’s activities is free of charge. The organizing committee of the RED, together with the host committee, proposes the following areas of knowledge for the presentation of papers, workshops, and documents.

– Life and environmental sciences
– Education and humanities
– Desert Anthropological Sciences
