UANL sets Global Standards in Tuberculosis
'Jose Eleuterio Gonzalez' University Hospital (HU) is a pioneer in the diagnosis of tuberculosis, developing new technologies able to fight against this infectious disease.
UANL’s Center for Research, Prevention and Treatment of Respiratory Infections is a national referent in the development of new tendencies to fight against tuberculosis on a global level.
Its participation to address several tuberculosis patterns at a guaranteed committee from the World Health Organization (WHO) and European Respiratory Society (ERS) has been thanks to the work it has performed during the last 15 years in Nuevo León and Mexico, acknowledged at an international level.
Tuberculosis remains one of the ten leading causes of mortality in the world.
3 facts about TB:
- More than 10 million people contracted tuberculosis and 1.7 million died from the disease back in 2016.
- When a tuberculosis patient talks, coughs, or sneezes, they can spread the infection through the air, leading to another infected person once they inhale the particles of the bacteria.
- If a person has already been infected, the disease does not appear immediately; it may take months or years to appear.
