UANL student honored as one of the best engineers in the world.
The American Society of Civil Engineers awarded Omar Rodríguez Villarreal second place.
The American Society of Civil Engineers, the oldest and most important association in the United States, awarded Omar Rodríguez Villarreal second place in the category of Best Scientific Poster during the Engineering Mechanics Institute Conference 2021.
In 2015 he obtained the UANL Best Undergraduate Thesis Award, in 2019 he received the Marcelo Lippmann Award given by the Geothermal Resources Council (GRC) and now he has been awarded by the American Society of Civil Engineers.
Omar Rodríguez Villarreal is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Materials Engineering at FIME in a double degree program with the Institut Supérieur Aquitain du Bâtiment et des Travaux Publics (ISA-BTP) of Université de Pau et des Pays de l’Adour (UPPA), in France
The scientific poster with which Omar won, is also the first paper of his doctoral research, entitled: “Estimation of Fracture Energy from Hydraulic Fracture Tests on Mortar and Rocks at Geothermal Reservoir Temperatures”.
The award ceremony took place during the Engineering Mechanics Institute Conference 2021 and Probabilistic Mechanics & Reliability Conference 2021 (EMI 2021/PMC 2021). This event was held online this year due to the ongoing pandemic.
Tutors and thesis, keys to success.
In an interview, Omar Rodriguez commented that current collaborations in France and Australia were possible because he had the confidence to work towards establishing a double-degree program and to seek external funding to make it possible.
After receiving the “Marcelo Lippmann Award” in Palm Springs, California, new opportunities have arisen for Omar in associations in the United States and Australia.
A year ago, he became one of the leaders of the International Student Council of the Geothermal Resources Council (GRC) in the United States.
